Florida to New York is the run snowbirds use to send their cars home, which is why rates on it are highest in May and June. The trip itself is a plain 1,100 to 1,300 miles, nearly all of it up I-95, so when there’s planning to do it usually comes before the truck is booked, and it’s about a car that was bought in Florida.
If you bought it from a Florida dealer, 45 days from the sale, because that’s the promise you sign for. A New York resident who signs a notarized statement that they’ll register the car at home within 45 days is charged Florida sales tax at New York’s 4% state rate instead of Florida’s 6%, and when you register, New York credits that against its own tax at the rate where you live, so the rest is paid at the DMV.
The car can stay in Florida while the paperwork goes through, but once it’s registered, New York gives a car from Florida 10 days to pass its inspection, since Florida issues no sticker to carry over. That’s why a car bought over the winter is worth booking north soon after the sale rather than when you head home yourself, so it’s in New York within those 10 days.
If it’s a used car, run its VIN through NICB’s free check before you sign, because a Florida hurricane can leave a car flooded without a title that says so.

Shipping a car from Florida to New York costs between $950 and $1,500 for open transport. Enclosed transport costs about 40 to 70% more, rising with distance.
Shipping a car from Florida to New York takes 3 to 5 days, an estimate that depends on where the car starts and where it is going. The route runs roughly 1,080 to 1,280 miles, most of it on I-95.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
Every shipment is insured by the carrier under federal cargo liability requirements.
You can leave up to 100 pounds of personal items in one piece of luggage, placed in the trunk or cargo area. Some carriers will accept additional weight for an added fee; we can arrange this for you after booking.
Nothing is charged at booking. The deposit is charged 7 days before your pickup window opens, and the remaining balance is paid to the driver at delivery.
Open transport is the standard choice for most vehicles. Enclosed transport costs 40 to 70% more and is appropriate for high-value vehicles, classics, low-clearance sports cars, and any car where weather exposure or road debris is a real concern.
Wash the car so its condition is easy to record, photograph it from each corner, and leave about a quarter tank of fuel. Take out anything above the 100 pound personal item allowance, and take your toll transponder such as FasTrak, E-ZPass or SunPass off the windshield, because toll gantries can read it while the car rides the truck. Have a working key ready for the driver.
