This policy explains what personal information Sequoia Car Shipping LLC (“Sequoia,” “we,” “us”) collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. It applies to sequoiacarshipping.com and to the car shipping service you book through it.
The short version: we collect what we need to move your car and run the website, we share your shipment details with the people who physically transport your vehicle, we don’t sell your personal information, and your card number never touches our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us
When you request a quote or book a shipment, you provide:
- Contact details: name, email address, phone number
- Shipment details: pickup and delivery addresses, requested dates, vehicle year, make, model, and condition
- Payment information: your card details, which go directly to our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe’s handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
- Communications: anything you send us by email, SMS, or phone, including documents related to a damage claim
Information collected automatically
When you use the website, we and our analytics providers collect:
- Device and browser type, IP address, and approximate location (city level)
- Pages visited, time on page, and how you interacted with the site, including the quote widget
- Cookies and similar technologies that support the above (see Section 5)
We use Google Analytics and PostHog for this. Neither receives your card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide quotes and arrange the transport of your vehicle
- Process the deposit payment and manage your booking
- Send transactional messages about your shipment by email and SMS: booking confirmation, carrier assignment, pickup and delivery updates
- Respond to your questions and help with damage claims
- Understand how the website is used so we can improve it
- Detect fraud and protect the service
- Meet legal, tax, and insurance-related obligations
We send marketing email only if you’ve opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing message. Transactional messages about an active shipment are not marketing and continue while your shipment is in progress.
3. Who We Share Your Information With
We share personal information only as needed to provide the service:
- The motor carrier assigned to your shipment. The carrier and its driver receive your name, phone number, pickup and delivery addresses, and vehicle details. They need these to pick up, transport, and deliver your car. Service providers we use to arrange transport receive shipment details for the same purpose.
- Payment processing. Stripe processes your card and deposit.
- Service providers. Companies that host the website, deliver our email and SMS messages, and provide analytics, each only to the extent needed to do their job for us.
- Legal requirements. We disclose information if required by law, court order, or a government request with legal force, or to protect our rights, our customers, or the public.
- Business transfers. If Sequoia is acquired or merges with another company, your information transfers with the business. The new owner remains bound by this policy until it is updated.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
SMS data: no mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in consent are shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.
4. SMS Messages
By providing your phone number when you book, you agree to receive transactional SMS messages about your shipment: booking confirmation, carrier assignment, pickup notifications, and delivery updates. Message frequency varies with your shipment status.
Reply STOP to any message to opt out. Reply HELP for help, or email [email protected]. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply. Opting out of SMS does not cancel your shipment; we’ll continue to update you by email.
5. Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for three things: keeping the site working (for example, remembering your quote while you complete a booking), measuring how the site is used, and understanding which pages bring people to us.
Our analytics providers are Google Analytics 4 and PostHog. You can limit or block cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking cookies may affect how the quote widget works.
We do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals, because there is no common standard for them. The commitments in this policy apply regardless.
6. How Long We Keep Information
We keep booking and shipment records for as long as we need them to provide the service and to meet legal, tax, and insurance-claim obligations, which extend for several years after delivery. Quote requests that never become bookings, and analytics data, are kept for shorter periods. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information: encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site, payment processing handled entirely by Stripe, and access to customer records limited to people who need it to do their work. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable precautions and expect the same of our service providers.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You can, at any time:
- Access or correct the information we hold about you
- Request deletion of your information, subject to records we’re legally required to keep
- Opt out of marketing email via the unsubscribe link, and opt out of SMS by replying STOP
- Ask questions about anything in this policy
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We’ll respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
State privacy rights
Depending on where you live, state law may give you additional rights: the right to know what personal information we’ve collected about you, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don’t sell or share personal information in the way those laws define, so there is nothing to opt out of, but the other rights apply and you can exercise them through the contact above. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
California residents may designate an authorized agent to make requests on their behalf.
9. Children
Our service is for adults. The website is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, email us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
When we update this policy, we’ll post the new version here with an updated date at the top. If a change meaningfully reduces your rights, we’ll notify customers with active shipments by email before it takes effect.
