Most shipments run door to door. If access is tight (narrow streets, low clearance), we will arrange a nearby meeting point.

Professional service and reasonable price considering they had to winch my car on the trailer.

We had to send the car back to the dealership in Georgia and Sequoia did a really great job for us. Highly recommended!!!

There are two ways across, depending on where in New York the car is going. Bound for the city, a truck from Detroit runs the Ohio Turnpike and then I-80 across Pennsylvania, which is about 600 miles and keeps well south of the lakes the whole way. Bound for Buffalo, Rochester or further along the Thruway, it stays on I-90 beside Lake Erie, which is the shorter road and, in winter, the snowier one.
If the check engine light is on, have it seen to before the car leaves. Michigan doesn’t test emissions, so the New York inspection due within ten days of registering is probably the first test the car has had, and a light that stays on fails it. Ten days isn’t much time to chase a fault once the car has arrived.
It can, from November to February, because the I-90 leg runs through three lake-effect snowbelts in a row, east of Cleveland, around Erie in Pennsylvania and at Buffalo, and each of them gets heavy snow most winters. Erie had just over four feet in three days over Christmas 2017, and in storms like that New York has closed the Thruway west of Rochester to trucks, which is why a winter delivery upstate can move even when the weather in Michigan and at your end is fine.

Checked September 2026 against New York DMV. Rules change; the state's own site has the final word.

Shipping a car from Michigan to New York costs between $850 and $1,350 for open transport. Enclosed transport costs about 40 to 70% more, rising with distance. Detroit to New York City sits near the bottom of that range and Traverse City near the top, and once you book, the price holds for 28 days.
Shipping a car from Michigan to New York takes an estimated 2 to 4 days. Detroit to New York City is about 600 miles, most of it on the Ohio Turnpike and I-80 across Pennsylvania, and cars from west or northern Michigan add a few hours of driving before that.
No. New York charges its sales tax when you register a car bought out of state, but it credits the sales tax you paid in Michigan, up to the rate where you live, so keep the paperwork that shows what the dealer charged.
You can cancel for free up to 7 days before pickup. After that, the deposit is non-refundable.
One to two weeks ahead is enough on most routes. Busy corridors handle shorter notice, and quieter lanes benefit from the full two weeks. Booking earlier does not lower the price; it settles your dates sooner, and the quote is locked for 28 days either way.
Nothing is charged at booking. The deposit is charged 7 days before your pickup window opens, and the remaining balance is paid to the driver at delivery.
Open transport is the standard choice for most vehicles. Enclosed transport costs 40 to 70% more and is appropriate for high-value vehicles, classics, low-clearance sports cars, and any car where weather exposure or road debris is a real concern.
Every shipment is insured by the carrier under federal cargo liability requirements.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
