Ohio to Virginia is a mountain crossing more than anything, because on most lanes the middle of the trip is West Virginia, on I-77 down to Charleston and then I-64 east over the Alleghenies and the Blue Ridge toward Richmond and the coast, and the whole run usually takes two to four days. Part of that road is the West Virginia Turnpike, which tolls trucks by the axle, and that toll is already in your quote.
If the car is in Lake, Geauga or Ashtabula County, or on the eastern side of Cuyahoga, it sits in Ohio’s snowbelt, where lake-effect bands off Erie come through from November to February. They can be heavy, two to five feet in the week after Thanksgiving 2024, and narrow enough that Cleveland itself may see little. So a winter pickup in those counties can move, even when the rest of the trip is clear.
Whether it will pass Virginia’s safety inspection, because the car needs one as soon as it’s registered, with no grace period, and an Ohio car has spent its winters on salted roads. Rust shows underneath first, so photos of the underside, or a look on a lift at a shop near the seller, tell you more than the listing will. Budget too for the 4.15% sales and use tax Virginia collects when you title it.

Shipping a car from Ohio to Virginia costs between $800 and $1,150 for open transport. Enclosed transport costs about 40 to 70% more. Cleveland or Columbus to the coast sits in the lower half of that range and Toledo or Cincinnati to Virginia Beach near the top, and your booked price holds for 28 days.
Shipping a car from Ohio to Virginia takes an estimated 2 to 4 days. The lanes in the table run roughly 530 to 640 miles, and every one of them crosses the Appalachians before it reaches Virginia.
A title within 30 days of your move and registration within the same 30 days, with a safety inspection at a Virginia shop, ideally before you register, since there's no grace period after. Only Northern Virginia adds an emissions test, in Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford counties and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park. A car already titled in your name pays no Virginia sales tax, though one bought in the last 12 months needs proof you paid tax on it elsewhere.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
One to two weeks ahead is enough on most routes. Busy corridors handle shorter notice, and quieter lanes benefit from the full two weeks. Booking earlier does not lower the price; it settles your dates sooner, and the quote is locked for 28 days either way.
You can leave up to 100 pounds of personal items in one piece of luggage, placed in the trunk or cargo area. Some carriers will accept additional weight for an added fee; we can arrange this for you after booking.
Every shipment is insured by the carrier under federal cargo liability requirements.
Nothing is charged at booking. The deposit is charged 7 days before your pickup window opens, and the remaining balance is paid to the driver at delivery.
Yes. Every toll, bridge and congestion charge the truck pays on the way is already in your quote, and nothing is added for them after you book.
