A car leaving San Jose never has to cross the Bay, because the city sits at its southern end with its own roads out. Cars bound for Southern California, Arizona and Texas usually go down US-101 and over Pacheco Pass to I-5, while those heading for Denver, Chicago or the East Coast go up the East Bay to I-80. Both routes climb higher passes further on, and in a winter storm the Grapevine to the south or Donner Summit to the east can hold trucks for hours, now and then for about a day, which is when a winter delivery date moves.
Often it can, since San Jose doesn’t close its neighborhoods to trucks as a whole. It posts limits for trucks over 5 tons on particular residential streets instead, to stop them being used as shortcuts, and California’s vehicle code doesn’t let a city use a limit like that to keep out a truck coming by the direct route to make a pickup or delivery on the street. So the sign matters less than the street itself. A carrier that long needs room to stop, load and get back out, and on a narrow street or a tight cul-de-sac the handover usually happens on the nearest through street, which is worth mentioning when you book.

You can leave up to 100 pounds of personal items in one piece of luggage, placed in the trunk or cargo area. Some carriers will accept additional weight for an added fee; we can arrange this for you after booking.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
