Shipping a car out of Phoenix and shipping one in ask different things of you. A car leaving the Valley takes I-10 west toward Los Angeles or east toward Texas, or I-17 north for Denver, Chicago and Seattle, and that northern road is the only one with a real climb, up to about 7,000 feet at Flagstaff, where a winter storm can close the interstate and hold the truck for a few hours. A car arriving, and more people move here from California than from anywhere else, has a step waiting for it once it’s here.
Usually not. In the Phoenix and Tucson areas Arizona wants an emissions test before it will title and register a car from another state, and since the test is done on the car itself, the Arizona plates can only come after delivery. That’s why we’d leave room in your first weeks for a trip to a test station rather than plan the registration for the day the truck arrives. Two kinds of car skip it. One is anything from the 1966 model year or older, and the other is a car still in its first five years of registration, which goes straight to the registration step.

Shipping a car from Phoenix costs about $0.70 to $1.40 a mile on an open carrier. That works out to $950 to $1,300 for Denver, $1,150 to $1,450 for Atlanta and $1,850 to $2,300 for New York, and whatever you book, the price holds for 28 days.
A car shipped out of Phoenix spends 3 to 7 days on the truck. Denver is the quickest at 3 to 4 days, Houston and Seattle take 3 to 5, Minneapolis, Chicago and Atlanta 4 to 6, and New York 5 to 7. They are estimates rather than promises, since the driver has other cars to load and drop off on the way.
Every shipment is insured by the carrier under federal cargo liability requirements.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
Nothing is charged at booking. The deposit is charged 7 days before your pickup window opens, and the remaining balance is paid to the driver at delivery.
One to two weeks ahead is enough on most routes. Busy corridors handle shorter notice, and quieter lanes benefit from the full two weeks. Booking earlier does not lower the price; it settles your dates sooner, and the quote is locked for 28 days either way.
You can leave up to 100 pounds of personal items in one piece of luggage, placed in the trunk or cargo area. Some carriers will accept additional weight for an added fee; we can arrange this for you after booking.
