Winter never holds up a pickup in Los Angeles itself, so the time of year only starts to matter once your car is on the road east, and then only on the routes that climb.
The southern one hardly ever does, because I-10 runs east through Phoenix and El Paso and stays low across the desert the whole way. I-40 is the high road across northern Arizona, climbing to around 7,000 feet at Flagstaff, and when heavy snow comes through, Arizona closes the stretch either side of the city, as it did in both of the last two winters. The route to Denver climbs highest, since it goes north on I-15 into Utah and then east on I-70, which crosses the Continental Divide at over 11,000 feet at the Eisenhower Tunnel. Winter lasts long enough up there that Colorado makes trucks carry chains from September through May.
So a winter shipment on I-40 or I-70 can sit out a storm, and its delivery date moves with it. If the car needs to be in Denver, or anywhere along I-40, by a particular day in winter, we’d leave some room around that date when you book.
