Picking up a car in Charlotte is usually simple, and the one part of the city where timing matters is Uptown, inside the freeway loop. The Charlotte area has added close to 280,000 people since 2020, about half of that from people moving in from elsewhere in the country, and the two interstates that cross here, I-85 and I-77, lead out toward Atlanta, Virginia and Ohio.
Yes, but not during the weekday rush hours. Inside the loop formed by I-277 and I-77, the city doesn’t let a vehicle that size stop, load or unload on the street from 7 to 9 in the morning or from 4 to 6 in the afternoon, Monday to Friday, so a car parked at an Uptown apartment or office is collected in the middle of the day, in the evening or at the weekend.
Elsewhere in Charlotte there’s no clock. A truck that size is expected to stay on the main roads instead, and it may turn onto a residential street only to load or unload, never to park and wait. In a subdivision of cul-de-sacs, where a long carrier may have no room to turn, that usually means handing the car over at the entrance or on the nearest main road, so it helps to mention a street like that when you book.

Shipping a car from Charlotte costs about $0.65 to $1.55 a mile on an open carrier, with the shorter runs costing more per mile. That's $850 to $1,150 to New York, $700 to $1,000 to Miami and $1,500 to $1,850 to Los Angeles, and once you book, the price holds for 28 days.
A car shipped from Charlotte usually spends 2 to 7 days on the truck. New York, Miami and Chicago take 2 to 4 days, Boston 3 to 4, Dallas 3 to 5, Phoenix 4 to 7 and Los Angeles 5 to 7. These are estimates, since the driver is picking up and delivering other cars on the same trip.
You can leave up to 100 pounds of personal items in one piece of luggage, placed in the trunk or cargo area. Some carriers will accept additional weight for an added fee; we can arrange this for you after booking.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
Open transport is the standard choice for most vehicles. Enclosed transport costs 40 to 70% more and is appropriate for high-value vehicles, classics, low-clearance sports cars, and any car where weather exposure or road debris is a real concern.
Every shipment is insured by the carrier under federal cargo liability requirements.
Nothing is charged at booking. The deposit is charged 7 days before your pickup window opens, and the remaining balance is paid to the driver at delivery.
