Austin has been growing at its edges faster than in the middle, north through Round Rock and Georgetown and south through Kyle and San Marcos, so plenty of Austin pickups happen 20 or 30 miles from downtown, close to I-35. That keeps most of them simple, and the thing here that can hold one up is rain.
It does, and quickly, because Austin sits in what the city calls Flash Flood Alley. Heavy rain can put low-water crossings and creek-side roads under water within hours, mostly in spring and autumn, and the big floods come back: Onion Creek in southeast Austin reached its record crest in October 2013 and came within a foot of it two years later. On a day like that a pickup beyond a closed crossing waits until the water goes down, which is why it’s worth checking the city’s ATXfloods map for your own street when heavy rain is forecast near your pickup date.

Shipping a car from Austin typically costs $0.75 to $1.05 per mile, depending on distance and destination. In totals, that's $850 to $1,150 to Atlanta, $1,000 to $1,250 to Los Angeles, and $1,200 to $1,500 to New York. Once you book, the price holds for 28 days.
Most shipments out of Austin take 3 to 7 days door to door. Atlanta runs 3 to 4 days, Chicago and Los Angeles 3 to 5, New York and Boston 4 to 6, and Seattle 4 to 7. Those are estimates, because the day your car arrives depends on the other stops the driver makes along the way.
Wash the car so its condition is easy to record, photograph it from each corner, and leave about a quarter tank of fuel. Take out anything above the 100 pound personal item allowance, and take your toll transponder such as FasTrak, E-ZPass or SunPass off the windshield, because toll gantries can read it while the car rides the truck. Have a working key ready for the driver.
The truck waits until the road is safe to drive, and your pickup or delivery date moves with it. We'll confirm the driver's new window with you as soon as the road reopens. Snow on the mountain passes and in the northern states, and hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, are the usual causes.
Every shipment is insured by the carrier under federal cargo liability requirements.
Nothing is charged at booking. The deposit is charged 7 days before your pickup window opens, and the remaining balance is paid to the driver at delivery.
If you find damage at delivery, note it on the bill of lading before signing. We will manage the claim with the carrier from there.
